The 6th International Cretaceous Symposium was held in the year 2000 at the Geocenter of the University of Vienna. It was a successful meeting of earth scientists interested in all aspects of the Cretaceous system, a major period of earth history from 135 to 65 million years. The Cretaceous was characterized by a peak global greenhouse climate, dramatic steps in the evolution of life and intensive mountain buidling processes. This Proceedings volume gathers together 23 original papers from authors of 15 countries, including several Russian contributions. The volume covers a great variety of topics from palaeclimatology, stratigraphy, palaeogeography and palaeobiogeography to palaeobiology and palaeoecology, and includes papers on European areas as well as on South America and far east Asia.

Das 6. Internationale Kreidesymposium wurde im Jahr 2000 am Geozentrum der Universität Wien abgehalten. Die Tagung versammelte Erdwissenschaftler, deren Forschung vielfältige Aspekte der Kreidezeit umfasst, eine wichtige Periode der Erdgeschichte von 135 bis 65 Millionen Jahren. Die Kreidezeit war gekennzeichnet durch ein globales Treibhausklima, dramatische Entwicklungssprünge in der Evolution des Lebens und intensive Gebirgsbildungsphasen. Dieser Tagungsband sammelt 23 originale Beiträge von Autoren aus 15 Ländern einschließlich Russland. Der Band behandelt eine große Vielfalt an Themen von Paläoklimatologie, Stratigraphie, Paläogeographie und Paläobiogeographie bis zu Paläobiologie und Palökologie, und umfasst sowohl Beiträge über europäische Gebiete als auch über Südamerika und Fernost.
