Dietrich learns about the mountains called Trûtmunt, where giants live, and he rides there. In the mountains, he sees a cave built by the wild dwarves. Dietrich meets the dwarves who built the cave, and he sees a beautiful maiden. When he wants to talk to her, the dwarves hide her in the hill. Dietrich gets angry, saying he means no harm, but the dwarf king Goldemar still hides her.
