Braune, W., Ebbinghaus, E.A. (ed.):Althochdeutsches Lesebuch. 16th Ed., Tübingen 1979. Nr. XXXVIII.

HiLi-1:   Father-son-combat between Hildebrand and Hadubrand: Hildebrand asks his adversary about his father and descent. (15) Hadubrand identifies himself as son of Hildebrand; Hildebrand, Theoderich and other warriors exiled by Odoaker; wife and child left behind without assistance. Hadubrand thinks his father is dead. (30) Hildebrand: Hadubrand has never before chosen a person so closely related as adversary. He gives him golden rings, which he received from the king of the Huns. (35) Hadubrand: a hero should take such gifts only with his spear; he takes him for a deceitful Hun. Sailors have assured him of his father’s death. (45) Hildebrand knows combat cannot be avoided. He had been in exile for 60 years. Single combat begins.
