Aug-1:   A faultless but ugly knight is married to a beautiful woman who is very much in love with him. One day he looses an eye at a tournament and is afraid of presenting himself to his wife mutilated. He talks to his knave who promises to bring the bad news to his wife. The squire advises the knight to make his future behavior dependent of her reaction. The squire rides home and reports the accident and the knight’s intention to go to the holy land. Therefore the faithful wife puts out one of her eyes to show sympathy with her husband.
