Then the sly matchmaker speaks to a beautiful lady on the way to mass and tells her that her secret lover is so much in love. As proof she gives her a silk belt, a presumed gift of the lover, and the lady agrees to the date. On the next morning, the matchmaker introduces them and they fall in love.

Later the lady together with her maid visits the matchmaker. While they are waiting the matchmaker fetches the minister. But when on his way, the canon calls him back on a very important matter. As a substitute, Frau Metze finds a handsome young man on the street. But when the matchmaker arrives with him at the house, the lady recognizes her husband. Her maiden has good advice, and she accuses the oncoming husband of adultery. The husband apologizes, and she grants forgiveness very quickly because of her own bad conscience.
