HvWBG-1:   Promythion: To prove his story the poet mentions Ulrich von Lichtenstein. An old knight in Friaul is married to a beautiful wife who is wooed by a young knight. One day she doesn’t want to reject her lover anymore and tells him to come under her balcony and pull on the string on her toe. Unfortunately the string touches her husband’s leg who wakes up instead of his wife and sees the waiting knight.

HvWBG-183:   The lady wakes up from the noise and frees the knight while her husband fetches light. When he returns she holds a donkey instead. The husband knows that something is wrong but has no proof and goes to bed again angrily. When he is asleep the wife persuades a mate to change places with her. She grants the lover her favors while her mate is in her bed. The maid is beaten up and her hair is cut. When the old knight wakes up the next morning he finds his wife uninjured and is looked upon as slanderer. The story would have bee remained hidden if the amid had not revealed the secret.
