PKvWB-1:   In order to find out the most fitting suitor for his daughter, the king announces a tournament. The knight Arnold earns special merits. He is invited to table and sits at the princess’s side.

PKvWB-76:   When pears are offered for dessert, the knight doesn’t peel his, but eats one half and then offers the other half to the princess. Angry at his impoliteness, she mocks him the next day at the tournament in front of the others.

PKvWB-122:   He returns home ashamed and decides to take revenge. Following his page’s advice, he returns to the court disguised as fool. At night he lies down by the princess’s palace and is discovered. The princess has him brought in. He settles down at the fireplace, and the princess notices his big penis, because he is wearing no clothes from the belt down. She sends all her maidens away, except for Irmengard, who brings him to her lady’s bed. He lies down without moving. The princess instructs her maiden to incite him.

PKvWB-335:   Arnold returns home the next morning and appears in knightly gear at the tournament. When the princess mocks him again, he calls to her in the same words with which she instructed her maiden to incite him. The princess is in dismay and has no other choice than to marry Arnold. Epimythion: Man and woman should be aware of custom and propriety.
