One night the Swabian knight Sociabilis has a dream: a beautiful maiden promises her love. He has to propose to her father, a count at Bodensee. Sociabilis attends a tournament at Bodensee and is invited by the count. At the dances he tells the lady of his dream.

First she is in dismay, but then admits her love and has him woo at her father’s. The next day the knight exchanges ring and brooch and she promises to meet him in the garden by night. At home he sends a proposal to the count but is rejected. He receives a letter from the lady and she wants him to keep the rendezvous.

They spend the night together and the girl becomes pregnant. She tells her mother, who informs the count. The father sends the daughter with the child away to a distant country. There she sees her paramour at a tournament and reveals her identity by the ring and they get married.
