Fischer, H.(ed.): Der Stricker. Verserzählungen (=ATB 53). 2nd ed. Tübingen 1967. Nr. 12, p. 143–155

StrDE-1:   A bon-vivant who spent his life and his goods with drinking, eating and love affairs decides one day while drunk to better his ways and become a hermit. His friends give him the advice to think it over when sober, but he remains stubborn and retreats the next morning to the forest. He spends his time as regretful repentant. After twenty weeks, while coming down physically, he weakens in his decision and thinks again of wine.

StrDE-130:   One day a woman begs him to tell her the future. He demands a pitcher of wine and prophesies so many blessings that she tells it the whole village and they all come like being on a pilgrimage. But as the prophecies won’t come true, the wine source dries out after a while and the hermit is forced to come nearer to the village. When he finally comes out of the forest the people are really angry at him. After a while he missions the inns of the town, where the drinkers mock him by letting him drink up their cups. He doesn’t care that all people call him a fool.
