(= Fragment A+B) This is the story of a knight by the name of Tristant. As his wife is abducted he sets out to find a helper at the court of King Arthur. He asks the courtiers for assistance but they put him off until the following day. Tristant is not amused about this delay and starts lamenting the death of his namesake, who would have helped him without hesitating. The hero’s death still is remembered and lamented in many musical pieces and songs. Tristant takes his armor and horse and goes with him.
