AvHMC-25:   Iphis and Anaxarete: Iphis is desperately in love with Anaxarete. He strives to win her favor by writing love-letters and spending the nights at the threshold of her house. The maiden is yet unimpressed and scorns the passionate youth.

AvHMC-62:   Realizing that his love will remain unrequited, Iphis comes one night to the girl’s door and admits his defeat, announcing that he will commit suicide. Moreover, he prays that the gods will avenge his death. Subsequently, he hangs himself from the door-post.
